PHOENIX — Sweating poolside will soon be a thing of the past in Scottsdale, where a hotel chain was planning to open the first indoor water park in Arizona.

Arizonans are known for hitting the pool during the hot summer months, but they’ll soon be able to beat the heat inside at the state’s first indoor water park.

Great Wolf Lodge, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, announced plans this week to open a 350-room hotel with a water park inside. The resort will be located Scottsdale near the Loop 101 and Via de Ventura.

“It centers around a massive indoor water park, which fuels a lot of family fun,” spokesman Jason Lasecki said.

But the water slides were not the only attraction the lodge will offer.

“We’ve got arcades, mini golf — we’ve got a hole host of activities that happen outside the water park,” Lasecki said.

One of those other activities will encourage kids to get up and explore the resort.

“MagiQuest, where kids get a magic wand and they go around the resort searching for ruins and relics with that wand,” Lasecki said. “They end up battling pixies and dragons and it’s just so much fun.”

The chain has 15 locations in the United States. Scottsdale is one of three more that were expected to open in the near future.

The Scottsdale Great Wolf Lodge should be up and running in the last half of 2019.
