No Valley freeway closures planned for Rock n’ Roll Marathon weekend

PHOENIX — There is good news for the runners who will take part in this year’s Rock n’ Roll Marathon: There will be no Phoenix-area freeway closures during the Jan. 12 weekend.
That’s right, for the second weekend in a row, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced it will not plan any closures or major lane restrictions for construction or maintenance along Phoenix-area freeways.
However, that does not mean that drivers should expect smooth sailing this weekend: The department is still warning motorists to be aware of any accidents, slowing or other road conditions.
The department advised drivers to “use caution when approaching and traveling through existing work zones” and reminded them of the state’s “Move Over” law, which requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching pulled-over vehicles.
The Rock n’ Roll Arizona Marathon will roll through the Valley, snarling traffic throughout downtown Phoenix and Tempe from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14 as runners gather to run a half-marathon, a full marathon or a 5K.
