PHOENIX — Three Kmart locations and one Sears store in Arizona will be among the more than 100 stores that will go out of business across the nation in the next few months.
The Sears Department Store in Mesa’s Fiesta Mall and the Kmart in Casa Grande Mall are expected to close this month, while two Kmart locations in Tolleson and Show Low will close by April.
The locations are among 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores that will be closing early this year.
Sears, the stores’ parent company, said it was closing “some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model so that our physical store footprint and our digital capabilities match the needs and preferences of our members.”
Employees who will be impacted by these closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for positions at other Kmart or Sears stores. Those stores will also hold liquidation sales as early as Jan. 12.
These closures are just the latest in the Valley: In August, the last Kmart is Mesa closed its doors for good and two more Kmart locations closed in the Phoenix area in June.
