PHOENIX — A $3 million federal grant will be used to aid the health needs of the homeless in Maricopa County.

The money was under the control of Maricopa County, but will now be managed by the Phoenix non-profit organization Circle the City.

Circle the City CEO Brandon Clark said the organization currently serves about 4,000 people each year and hopes to increase that number to more than 10,000 with the help of this grant money.

“We hope that we’re going to be able to use it to expand our impact in the community from where we are now,” Clark said.

Clark said the grant money will go to adding resources and hiring more staff.

“With this funding, we’re hoping to expand virtually every service we provide, whether it be medical respite care, primary and preventative care or health outreach in the community,” he said.

The organization provides a range of services, from prenatal checkups to well child visits, substance abuse treatment to giving patients who were just released from the hospital a place to heal.

“Circle the City’s mission is to provide for the unmet healthcare needs of people experiencing homelessness in our community,” Clark said.
