PHOENIX — Eight people have been arrested in D.C. for protesting the lack of progress made on the Dream Act, seven of the eight were DACA recipients.

The group was arrested protesting outside the offices of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Sen. Carlos Curbelo (R-Florida).

At least two of the eight — Belen Sisa and Erika Andiola– were students at ASU.

This is not the first time Sisa has been arrested for protesting against congressional action, or lack thereof. The ASU senior was arrested in November for again protesting for the Dream Act.

In her previous arrest, she was released a few hours later, but this time the judge requested a hold, which was not resisted by the group and their lawyers. The hold, which is expected to last until Tuesday, then led to the hunger strike.

All eight of the group members vow to remain in the hunger strike until Schumer and Curbelo confirm they have the votes to block any spending bill before the passage of the Dream Act.

Sisa has also gone viral before posting her tax returns on Facebook and declaring how difficult it was for her to pay for her tuition due to the current tax code. In the post she dared President Donald Trump to do the same.

Andiola worked as a press secretary for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. She graduated in 2009 with a degree in Psychology.

We want to hear from you.
