PHOENIX — Santa had a plate of bacon and eggs and then surprised the dedicated staff at a Scottsdale diner with a $2,000 tip to be shared with them all.

The anonymous customer at the 5 & Diner in Scottsdale left a note on his $17.23 bill Saturday morning wishing the employees a merry Christmas and to please divide the tip amongst themselves.

Nothing prepared the staff for the buzz that would last all day.

It had been, up until that discovery, a “normal day, normal guest,” longtime server Delia Meeks told Fox 10 News.

After the man left, Meeks said, “We were looking at the bill and said ‘$200? Oh … no, $2,000′”

She and other workers thought it was a mistake and showed the receipt to the manager, who couldn’t believe it, either.

“I’d never seen this before,” Meeks said to Channel 12 News.

Nine workers at the restaurant near Indian Bend Road and Loop 101 got about $200 apiece.

Meeks said the group hoped the generous man returned so they could thank him face to face.

We want to hear from you.
