PHOENIX – A recent study by The Stacker has revealed which U.S. states have the highest divorce rate per capita.

The study used data from the Center For Disease Control (CDC) and the National Center of Health Statistics from 2015 in order to identify region differences between each state.

From there, each state’s marriage and divorce rate was analyzed compared to the national average. California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, and Minnesota were all excluded from the list.

Overall, Arkansas was found to have the highest rate of divorce, with 4.8 for every thousand people — 56 percent higher than the national average. Nevada followed Arkansas with a 4.6 divorce rate.

With a divorce rate of 3.6, 15 percent higher than the national average, Arizona was listed as the state with the 13th-highest rate of divorce in the U.S.

Despite the statistics, the national average for divorce has seen a steady decline since 1980 when half of all marriages ended in divorce, according to the study.
