PHOENIX — A unique marketplace that will be focused on health and wellness is coming to downtown Phoenix.

Set to open in the spring of 2018, The Churchill in the downtown area will be the first of its kind and will be made solely out of shipping containers.

The marketplace will feature 10 locally-owned and operated businesses that cater to the culture of the Evans Churchill neighborhood.

Co-founder Keller Duncan said those businesses will include “two bars, three restaurants and then there are five retail spaces. The shipping containers will house all of those.”

A courtyard in the center will feature community-focused events such as health and wellness classes and education activities.

Duncan said he hopes to be able to “get some active classes out there. Obviously yoga comes to mind.”

Hartley Rodie, the project co-partner told AZBigMedia that organizers plan to hold monthly fundraisers and service outings to benefit Valley organizations.

Rodie said his focus for the marketplace revolves around community involvement.

The tenants of The Churchill are required to complete at least four hours of volunteer work per month.

“You gotta love where you live,” Rodie told AZBigMedia. “It’s not all about dollars and cents. This project is about people and community.”

Of the 10 businesses that will reside in The Churchill, three have been named. Freak Brothers Pizza, who will open its first non-mobile location, a boutique by the name of Cosas and a new cocktail bar called Pobrecito.

The remaining businesses that will inhabit The Churchill will be revealed on social media in the coming weeks. More information can be found on The Churchill website and Facebook page.
