PHOENIX — It looks like the kitchen won’t be the only place that is hot on Thanksgiving in Phoenix: The National Weather Service said the city could experience record heat.

“Some pretty strong high pressure ridging is going to build in again and … we could be seeing temperatures well up in the 80s,” meteorologist Marvin Percha said.

That forecast means Turkey Day could see highs well above the average, which sits in the low 70s.

“Highs by Thanksgiving — record highs at least are going to be 87, 88,” Percha said. “You can’t say it’s unprecedented, but it’s pretty unusual.”

Should things be a little warmer than expected and the high hits 90, it would be the latest day on record with such a temperature in Phoenix.

However, the weather service said the high should fall just short of the 90 mark.

Percha said Phoenix has experienced above-average temperatures since Oct. 10. Highs earlier last week flirted with the 90-degree mark, but never got there.

Things were expected to stay unseasonably warm all weekend. The highs on Friday and Saturday were expected to be 87 degrees, with Sunday just one degree cooler.

However, it appeared fall-like weather was on the way: Tuesday’s high was expected to be just 80 degrees.

The warm temperatures will come during a long rainless streak. The last time Phoenix recorded measurable rainfall was Aug. 23.
