Arizona Snowbowl again delays opening because of warm weather

PHOENIX — Skiers and snowboarders will have to wait a little longer before they can hit the slopes at Arizona Snowbowl. The resort has delayed opening again because of the weather.
In a press release, operators said they hoped to open the resort over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend when cooler weather rolls in.
“Snowbowl’s opening date will be announced once we have made sufficient snow to provide the best possible ski product,” General Manager J.R. Murray said in the release.
“All of us at Snowbowl are excited to kick off the ski season, and we’ll open as soon as possible.”
The resort had originally planned to open Nov. 10, but delayed that decision because of the weather.
Temperatures have been unseasonably warm in northern Arizona this year.
“The average low temperatures for the Flagstaff area for November so far are the warmest on record,” National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Klimowski said on Monday.
Though Flagstaff has recorded one of its driest falls ever as well, Klimowski said the white stuff could be coming soon.
“By Thanksgiving,” he estimated. “Historically, it’s Nov. 20 is our first inch of snowfall on average.”
It looked as if the forecast might be swinging in favor of the ski season.
While the weather service’s seven-day forecast did not include any precipitation, it showed highs were expected to be in the upper 40s while overnight lows should be about 25 degrees.
