PHOENIX — A former truck driver for a Phoenix company was sentenced to 9 months in prison for illegally dumping sewage into a school’s storm water drainage system.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office said Michael Wayne Higgins was sentenced on Monday, nearly one month after he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful discharge. He will also pay nearly $4,000 in cleanup costs.
Authorities said Higgins was working as a tanker truck driver for Emergency Pumping and Plumbing in August 2016 when he dumped the sewage at the Austin School for Exceptional Children Phoenix West Campus.
They said the storm drainage system flowed from the school’s parking lot into a grassy area that was used as a playground.
