Police looking to charge 14-year-old boy in deadly car accident in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police recommended charges against a 14-year-old boy who was allegedly involved in a car accident that killed three and seriously injured four others in Phoenix last week.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officials are recommending that the boy is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of endangerment, one felony count of fleeing from law enforcement and one count of driving a stolen vehicle.
Police said the boy was behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle when it became involved in an accident with another SUV near Greenway Road and Interstate 17 in Phoenix last Monday.
The collision caused one of the vehicles, which had seven passengers, to catch on fire. All of those passengers, who ranged from 13- to 30-years-old, were severely injured and the driver of the vehicle was one of the deceased victims.
Authorities identified the three females killed in the crash as 14-year-old Promise Garcia, 13-year-old Ariella Santos and 38-year-old Melissa Bishop.
The 14-year-old boy suffered some injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Police said Monday that he was released from the hospital and was transferred to the Juvenile Correctional Center.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
