Hometown girl Autumn Hurlbert is coming back to the Valley.

The actress will be featured in a Tony-nominated musical playing at Arizona State University’s Gammage auditorium at the end of October.

Hurlbert, who attended Dobson High School in Mesa, will return to the Valley to perform in the “Something Rotten!” tour, which runs from Tuesday, Oct. 31 to Nov. 5.

The Broadway-touring actress plays Portia in the national tour, which has received phenomenal reviews including 10 Tony nominations counting Best Musical.

“Something Rotten!” stars Rob McClure and Josh Grisetti, is an original musical comedy that follows two brothers who struggle to find success in the theatrical world as they try and compete with the likes of William Shakespeare in 1595 London.

Hurlbert said her Renaissance character befriends one of the main characters in the story. In an interview with Broadwayworld.com, she said:

“She quite literally runs into one of the heroes of the story, Nigel Bottom, and he’s a poet and they just instantly fall in love,” Hurlbert said.

“You find out that Portia has been reading not just the Bible, but all of the poetry and Shakespeare, and now she’s seeing all of this romantic writing that she’s been reading come to life in her life. Portia is just all love, and there’s not a sad or mean bone in her body.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Gammage Box Office or by calling (480) 965-3434.
