PHOENIX — East Mesa is getting a new hotel.
After ten years, ground has been broken for a Residence Inn by Marriott near U.S. 60 and Crismon Road.
Mesa councilman Kevin Thompson said he is ecstatic at the news.
“Over the last three years we’ve had unprecedented growth in the district. And with that growth comes need,” he said. “When you have business and tourism together – and you have the unprecedented growth – the need that arises is for hotel space.”
“Residence Inn by Marriott is a great addition to the area and another sign of the growing success of east Mesa,” Mayor John Giles said. “Ten years ago we kind of hit the pause button, but now we are very much back in that fast-paced growth mode. This is a good indication of how healthy our community is.”
The four-story hotel will be for extended stays. The suites will have full kitchens, access to 24-hour markets, and even grocery-delivery service. The property is expected to employ more than 100 people.
The Tucson-based Robinette Architects, Inc. is the architect and Brycon Construction is the general contractor for the project.
The hotel is not far from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which has also been going through a number of changes.
In June, Allegiant Air announced eight new non-stop destinations at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway. They include Midwest destinations like Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Omaha, Nebraska. It added even more destinations in October.
