PHOENIX — Valley-based Abrazo Community Health Network will be closing its west Phoenix campus before the end of the year, officials said Wednesday.
The Phoenix Business Journal reported that about 300 employees at the Maryvale Campus would be affected by the move.
The facility, near 51st and Campbell avenues, was scheduled to shut down Dec. 18.
“This was a difficult decision, and we do not anticipate any disruption to patient care,” Frank Molinaro, market CEO of the network said in a press release.
Molinaro said there had been a significant decline in the community for the hospital’s services. No patients who require hospital stays will be admitted after Dec. 1, he added.
“We will assist patients and their physicians in transitioning their care to other Abrazo Network facilities or the healthcare provider of their choice,” Molinaro said in the statement.
He said the site would remain staffed until the last day but the emergency room would close Dec. 17.
The ER handles 43,000 visits a year.
Staffers in “good standing” will get first crack at open positions in the network and its affiliates.
The site could become another home to another health care-related services. Abrazao said it was in discussions with other parties who may want to do that.
