PHOENIX — A bone-shattering injury suffered onstage has forced rocker Marilyn Manson to cancel his upcoming concert at the Arizona State Fair, an official said Friday.
“We are disappointed, but understand the healing process takes time,” Tony Felice, the fair’s director of communications, said in an email.
Fans who paid with a credit card for the Oct. 26 concert will automatically be refunded. Those who paid cash will have to head to the box office to get their money back.
Manson injured his leg during a September concert in New York. He originally canceled shows through Oct. 14, but he needed more time to heal.
Yahoo reported that Manson grabbed metal bars holding up two stage-prop pistols during the concert. The entire thing tipped over and landed on top of him, shattering bones in his leg.
“It started to fall and I tried to push back and I didn’t get out the way in time,” he told the website. “I’m not sure what I hit my head on, but it did fall onto my leg and break the fibula in two places. The pain was excruciating.”
Doctors put a plate and 10 screws into Manson’s leg to repair the bone. The average recovery time for such an injury is about three to four months.
Manson plans to return to the road after he recovers. The Van Buren, a concert venue in downtown Phoenix, announced Friday that he would be in Phoenix on Jan. 10.
Tickets from the state fair will not be honored on the Van Buren date.
