Country star Eric Church debuted a song that was dedicated to the victims of last weekend’s Las Vegas shooting, which killed 59 people and injured nearly 500 more.
The song, titled “Why Not Me,” was debuted by Church during his performance at the Grand Ol’ Opry in Nashville on Wednesday. Part of the lyrics were “What I saw, that moment in time that was frozen, there is no amount of bullets that can take that away…”
Church headlined the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas last weekend, before Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old man from Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on 22,000 concertgoers from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
During Wednesday’s performance, Church was clearly wracked with grief over the shooting, fighting back tears. The country singer also left a pair of seats empty in honor of a fan who died in the attacks.

In a speech to the audience, Church said he was “so moved” by the fans at the festival, “mainly because I looked at them and thought, ‘This is my crowd, I’ve seen them all year, they’re mine.'”
“Forty eight hours later, the places that I stood was carnage,” he added. “Those are my people. Those are my fans.”
