PHOENIX — Officials announced that the North Rim operations at the Grand Canyon National Park will begin closing down most visitor services as part of its seasonal shutdown process on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Mule rides will end on that Sunday, while the Grand Canyon Lodge will serve its last meal on the morning of Oct. 16.
Although the lodge and mule rides will be closed, self-service gas and diesel fuel will be available for use.
Visitor entrance and campground fees will still be collected through Nov. 30 and the visitor center will stay open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Oct. 31. The North Rim Backcountry Information Center will stay open each day of the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Halloween.
The North Rim will continue operations from dawn to dusk for day-use only from Nov. 1-30.
Depending on the weather, the target date for all North Rim operations to shut down is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 8 a.m. If bad weather causes State Highway 67 to close early, operations could stop sooner.
If you have a backcountry permit, you can still enter the North Rim through the winter months.
