Off-duty Phoenix police officer leaves gun in high school bathroom

PHOENIX — An off-duty Phoenix police officer left a handgun inside of a high school bathroom on Friday, police said.

The Chandler Police Department said the gun was found by a student in the restroom in the Chandler Public Library branch at Hamilton High School, located near Ocotillo Road and Arizona Avenue.

The student reported it to school staff and Chandler police officers responded.

Police said the officer, who has not been identified, returned minutes later to retrieve the gun.

Chandler police said the officer did not commit a crime.
