PHOENIX — People who live in the Phoenix area can shop at three of the nation’s best comic book stores, the perfect treat for National Comic Book Day on Monday.
The three stores placed high on a list compiled by Travel and Leisure that was based on Yelp rankings. The publication said it used both the quantity and quality of reviews to make its final determination.
A Glendale store finished at No. 5 on the list. Reviewers said Drawn to Comics — located near 59th and Glendale avenues in downtown Glendale — has a very welcoming staff and throws plenty of special events for comic book lovers.
“I have truly never been to a nicer store,” reviewer Lisa M. wrote. “As soon as we walked in, we were instantly greeted and given a layout of the store, which was very helpful.”
Comikaze and Toys, located near Litchfield and McDowell roads in Goodyear, was ranked 18th on the list. Yelp users said the shop has a good selection of both comic books and related toys and figurines.
The final store on the list was Gotham City Comics and Collectibles, which came in at 19th. Reviewers said the shop near Main Street and Country Club Drive boasts a large inventory and has some top-notch customer service.
The top comic book shop on Travel and Leisure’s list was Third Eye Comics in Annapolis, Maryland. That was followed by three stores in California.
