Anyone who has ever visited tourist destinations overseas, such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Big Ben in London, knows some of the most beautiful sights can be obstructed by the sheer amount of people who are also visiting.
But one international tourism office is using other countries’ overcrowding to its advantage, which sparked a viral marketing campaign, according to AdWeek.
A New Zealand couple found themselves in the midst of this campaign, after the tourism office for Oslo, Norway, saw their Instagram post about the overcrowding at the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris and offered them an all-expense paid trip.
Luckily for the couple, the offer was legitimate and wasn’t a sketchy scam, so they were whisked away to Oslo, where they embarked on a vacation of a lifetime.
And while their experience with the Mona Lisa was less than pleasant, the couple were able to see the The Scream by Edvard Munch — without obstruction.
The marketing campaign, which launched last month, has been viewed more than 1 million times across the city’s social networks, according to Norwegian advertising magazine Kampanje.
