PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has been able to re-home more than 90 percent of the animals that come through its shelters over the last eight months, the department said on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the county animal control has been able to give these animals new homes as a result of consistently meeting a number of task force recommendations from the Board of Supervisors.

“While MCACC immediately met many of the task force recommendations, we are now seeing the most important results – hundreds more animals are being saved each month,” part of the release read.

The shelter has invested more resources in rehabilitating dogs through increased amounts of playtime, more adoption events and expanded partnerships to provide food, shelter or equipment for animals.

“As a result, we are saving more of the dogs and cats that come in, giving them a second chance at life and a shot at a forever home,” the release read.

Mary Martin, director of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, praised the volunteers for their work, saying that “it’s because of them and because of our more than 100 partners, both new and old, that we’ve been able to save more lives.”

We want to hear from you.
