PHOENIX — Drivers making their way through Phoenix overnight Wednesday should plan on taking an alternate route or more travel time, as Interstate 17 will be restricted and ramps will be closed.
The closures were being put in place so crews could perform a routine inspection of the Van Buren Street overpass.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said ramps connecting Interstate 10 with southbound I-17 will be closed at the stack interchange about 9 p.m. They were expected to be reopened by 5 a.m. Thursday.
Eastbound drivers who need to reach I-17 should exit at 35th Avenue and use Van Buren Street to reconnect with the freeway, while those headed west should exit at 19th Avenue and use Van Buren Street.
The eastbound I-10 off-ramp at 27th Avenue will also be closed.
At the same time, I-17 will be down to two lanes between Adams Street and the I-10 interchange.
The northbound I-17 on-ramp will be closed periodically during the same hours.
