Scottsdale study shows people sleep better when dog snoozing nearby

PHOENIX — If you’ve been struggling to sleep at night, the solution to the problem could be your dog, a study from a Scottsdale hospital said.
The Mayo Clinic study said people who slept with a dog in the room averaged nearly seven hours of sleep per night.
“Most people assume having pets in the bedroom is a disruption,” said Dr. Lois Krahn, a sleep medicine specialist at the Center for Sleep Medicine on Mayo Clinic’s Arizona campus and an author of the study, said in a release.
“We found that many people actually find comfort and a sense of security from sleeping with their pets.”
However, the study said Fido should sleep on the floor, not in the bed. Participants got less sleep when their furry friend shared the bed.
The study monitored the sleep habits of 40 healthy adults and their dogs. Participants were required to wear activity trackers to monitor sleep patterns.
