PHOENIX — A school in Prescott was ranked this week as having the nation’s best aerospace-aeronautical-astronomical combined engineering program.

U.S. News and World Report said Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus beat out both the United States Air Force Academy and California Polytechnic State University for the top spot on the list.

“This No. 1 ranking reflects the caliber of our faculty, and is exemplified by the quality and hard work of our students and alumni,” Mark Sensmeier, the aerospace engineering department chair, said in a press release.

The school also fared well on the list of best undergraduate engineering schools that do not offer a doctorate. Embry-Riddle was ranked 14th on the list of 200 schools.

“With the addition of our brand-new, 52,000-square-foot STEM education center, we now have even more lab and undergraduate research space,” Ron Madler, dean of the College of Engineering at the Prescott Campus, said in the release.

“That, and the addition of our software engineering degree program should help to propel our College of Engineering even higher in future rankings.”

Another Arizona school also received a No. 1 ranking from U.S. News and World Report: Arizona State University took the top spot on the news site’s innovation list for the third consecutive year.
