PHOENIX — High temperatures in Phoenix will drop into the double-digit range for at least the next week, the National Weather Service said Thursday.

“It’s not going to be incredibly cooler, but after 110 the other day, highs only in the middle 90s will feel quite good,” meteorologist Mark O’Malley said.

Tuesday’s high of 110 degrees tied the daily heat record for Sept. 12. Though it was quite warm Tuesday, it was likely the final day of the year with a temperature that hot.

The weather service forecast said highs for the remainder of this week, the weekend and early next week will hover around 97 degrees.

However, that will drop on Tuesday and Wednesday as moisture moves into the city. Highs were expected to be about 93 degrees and there was expected to be a 10 percent chance of rain.

The drop in temperatures will be a return to average. Highs in Phoenix typically drop below 100 around Sept. 15.

Overnight lows will also fall, giving some of us a taste of the upcoming autumn weather.

“Low temperatures overnight (will be) in the 70s and, if you live in the outskirts of town, you could see some upper 60s,” O’Malley said.
