PHOENIX — U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will undergo further rounds of radiation and chemotherapy treatments as his battle with brain cancer continues, his office said.

“Following the advice of his doctors, Sen. McCain will continue to receive targeted radiation and chemotherapy treatments at National Institutes of Health while maintaining a regular work schedule in the United States Senate,” a Tuesday statement from his office said.

In an Instagram post, McCain’s daughter, Meghan, wrote that her father is a “warrior.”

“My father is and continues to be the great warrior, and my family continues to fight alongside him,” she wrote. “Thank you to his incredible nurses and doctors for all that you are doing for him and my family, I owe you an extreme debt of gratitude.”

Over the weekend, McCain told CNN that he was optimistic about his health despite being diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in July.

He told the network that he understands every life has to end and his has been filled with joy.

“Listen, those joyful memories of the campaign in 2000 are some of the most enjoyable times of my life. We were the underdogs, we were fighting our way up,” he said.

“We went to Sedona. I mean, everything was so magic about that campaign, and I’m very grateful for having the opportunity. Remember, I”m the guy who stood fifth from the bottom of his class in the Naval Academy.”

McCain’s weekend comments echoed what he told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac and Gaydos in August.

“My health is fine. I’m working hard,” he said after undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.
