Last year, the Arizona State Fair kicked off their season by launching a search for a ‘Kid Reporter’ to cover all the fun things to do and see at the Fair.
Parents submitted entries for their kids to become the Official Kid Correspondent for the Arizona State Fair. The lucky young journalist helped create videos and radio segments about everything that’s going on at the fair during its 18-day run. The program was such a hit, they are bringing it back again to cover the 2017 Fair Season.
Here’s what the 2017 Winner of the Kid Correspondent covered at the Fair.
Dragons Den
Whether you’re a Game of Thrones fan or you grew up singing Puff the Magic Dragon with Peter, Paul and Mary everyone one seems to be talking about dragons these days. The Dragons Den promises an up close and personal look at the mystical creatures. Look a life sized dragon in the eye and learn about the science and folklore of these fire-breathing creatures.
Coliseum Tour
The Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum has been where the Arizona State Fair schedules concerts, comedy shows and other events. The Coliseum opened November 3, 1965, and has hosted the Phoenix Suns of the NBA as well as indoor soccer, roller derby and professional and minor league ice hockey teams. Want to know what happens behind the scenes during the Arizona State Fair? Our Kid Reporter will be covering the details.
Entertainment & Concerts
Community dance, rodeos, and livestock shows will fill the outdoor stages. This year will feature three nights of intense rodeo action, celebrating Native American culture from all corners of the state. Inside the Coliseum the Arizona State Fair has entertainment for all types of music lovers. Country music lovers will enjoy performances from Gary Allan, Randy Houser and Billy Currington and Rick Springfield will be bringing the 80’s back with hits like ‘Jessie’s Girl’ on October 27th. Other bands such as Gin Blossoms, CAKE and newcomer DNCE with frontman Joe Jonas will get fans dancing in their seats. Reserved tickets are on sale now, but general admission seating is free with Fair admission.
Animals and Art
Every state fair offers fun views of farm animals, but at the Arizona State Fair, you actually have the chance to get up close and personal with the animals. Experience the famed petting zoo and Arizona Milk Producers Milking Parlor.
Our 2016 Kid Correspondent had a great time reporting on the petting zoo.
