PHOENIX — Phoenix residents should expect a very quick cooldown in high temperatures over Labor Day weekend, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service said the high on Friday was expected to be 109 degrees but that number would drop to 102 degrees on Saturday.

The slight drop in temperatures was expected as Tropical Storm Lidia pushed further north along Baja California. The storm was expected to head back out onto the Pacific Ocean before it can push a great deal of moisture into Arizona.

However, Phoenix could get some clouds and there was a 10 percent chance of rain on Saturday night.

As Lidia moved out to sea, highs in Phoenix were expected to go back to near 110 degrees. The high on Labor Day was forecast to be about 107 degrees, with a high of 108 degrees on Tuesday.

Both highs would be a few degrees above average.

Drivers heading for Arizona’s high country looked to be set for a perfect holiday weekend. The weather service called for highs about 80 degrees in Flagstaff all weekend long, with lows about 50 degrees.

Temperatures in Pinetop-Lakeside were expected to be about 80 degrees with lows in the 50s
