PHOENIX — The Waste Management Phoenix Open and the PGA Tour, in general, is widely known for their harsh stance on mobile device use.

It appears they have heard the outcries, as they announced that there will be a new “fan friendly” mobile device policy, according to a press release.

The policy will now allow spectators to capture pictures, video and audio in all areas every day. The content may not be utilized for any commercial use, but personal purposes like social media are now good to go.

“The Waste Management Phoenix Open shares the PGA TOUR’s goal in finding new ways to enhance the overall fan experience and they knocked it out of the park with this new fan-friendly cell phone policy,” said Carlos Sugich, Tournament Chairman for the 2018 WM Phoenix Open in a press release. “We have the greatest fans in golf and I know they will be excited to be able to capture all of the great moments during ‘The People’s Open’.”

There is still no live streaming, shot-by-shot coverage, texting or web browsing.

The rules state the devices must be on silent at all times and no flash can be used.
