PHOENIX — Oscar-winning actress and Scottsdale native Emma Stone was the highest-paid actress last year, an annual list from financial magazine Forbes said.
Forbes said Stone’s $26 million pretax earnings in 2016 was the best in the business.
The magazine said a majority of Stone’s paychecks came from her starring role in “La La Land.” She won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her performance.
Stone was born and raised in Scottsdale and pursued acting throughout her time in the Valley. She attended Xavier College Preparatory, an all-female private high school in Phoenix, before dropping out and moving to Los Angeles with her mother at the age of 15.
That move apparently paid off, as she topped other big-name stars on the list, such as Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lawrence.
The full list is in the slideshow below.
Aniston came in second with $25.5 million while Lawrence earned $24 million.
Melissa McCarthy, who pulled in $18 million, and Mila Kunis, who cashed checks worth $15.5 million, rounded out the top five.
The only newcomer to the actress list was British star Emma Watson, who rose to fame as Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” series.
Watson starred in the Disney remake of “Beauty in the Beast” last year, which helped her earn $14 million.
The top 10 actresses on Forbes’ list earned a combined $172.5 million, well below what the top 10 actors earned. The magazine said the 10 men earned $488.5 million.
