PHOENIX — A documentary about a professional windsurfer is set to debut, and it was made by Scottsdale filmmaker Steven Esparza.
The film will be available for purchase on Aug. 8 and features the story of Sarah Hauser, a girl from New Caledonia who bursts onto the North American windsurfing scene and chases after a championship.
Esparza, who owns the production company EchoHouse Films, is the producer and director of “Girl on Wave.”
A report from the Phoenix Business Journal said EchoHouse funded most of the film on their own, with some help from crowdfunding. It also said that the documentary took approximately 15 months to create, of which 12 months were for the filming in Maui.
In addition to being available for purchase, the film can be seen at Harkins Theatre Shea 14 on August 7 and at the Valley Arts Theater in Tempe from August 11 to 17, the Journal said.
