Arizona election officials receive 2nd request for voter data

PHOENIX — Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan said her office has received another request from the White House Administration for access to voter information.
Reagan said Thursday a legal team was going over the issue again, after having already said no.

It was the second time in three weeks a commission looking into possible voter fraud in the 2016 general election made the request for Arizona data.
Reagan said earlier this month the request raised privacy concerns because the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity would be able to make the information public.
She wrote Kris Kobach, vice chairman of the commission created by President Donald Trump, “Without any explanation how Arizona’s voter information would be safeguarded or what security protocols the Commission has put in place, I cannot in good conscience release Arizonans’ sensitive voter data for this hastily organized experiment.”
In the latest letter, Kobach wrote to Reagan: “Individuals’ voter registration records will be kept confidential and secure throughout the duration of the Commission’s existence.
“Once the Commission’s analysis is complete, the Commission will dispose of the data as permitted by federal law.”
He added that data could be directly and “securely submitted” via a new tool.
A recent ruling from a federal judge allowed the commission to continue seeking the records.
The Electronic Privacy Information Center’s had asked for a preliminary injunction to block the commission from collecting voter roll information that is publicly available.
