PHOENIX — A poll released Monday said slightly more than half of Arizonans disapprove of President Donald Trump, while more than 40 percent approve of him.

The Gallup poll of 1,671 Arizonans said 52 percent disapprove of the president and 43 percent approve of him. Five percent said they had no opinion of him.

Trump had a higher approval rating among older Arizonans. Fifty-three percent of those aged 65 and older said he was doing a good job compared to 30 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds.

The poll found that Trump’s biggest supporters were in West Virginia, where 60 percent of the state approved of the job he has done so far, followed by North Dakota (59 percent approval) and South Dakota (57 percent approval).

Trump had an approval rating above 50 percent in 17 states.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, just 26 percent of Vermont residents approved of the president, followed by Massachusetts (29 percent) and Maryland (tied with California at 30 percent).

Approval was below 40 percent in 17 states.

Gallup’s poll was the summation of daily poll data gathered between Jan. 20 and June 30.

Eight-six percent of the Arizonans polled said they were Republicans, while 38 percent were independent and 8 percent were Democrats.

Seventy percent of respondents were contacted by cellphone. The remainder were on a landline.
