PHOENIX — Arizona State University President Michael Crow could be among the candidates for next year’s opening at Harvard, according to a published report.
The Boston Globe put Crow on a list of potential candidates to replace President Drew Gilpin Faust, who recently announced she would step down next year.
Crow, 61, who is the highest-paid president of a public university in the country, has been at his post since 2002.
He earned $1.5 million for 2015-2016.
University officials told the Phoenix Business Journal last week that Crow was “fully committed” to the school.
During his tenure, ASU has gained attention for its graduate programs in business, law and education.
The four-campus school has also earned top rankings for bachelor’s programs and increasing the number of minority students.
In November, Crow announced his support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals-eligible students after the Trump administration said it was ending a policy that temporarily exempted some parents in the country illegally from deportation.
Harvard’s Faust was among 90 college and university presidents who signed a letter in November to President Donald Trump in support of DACA students.
Faust, the first woman president in the 380-year-old private school’s history, earned $1,404,848 for 2015-2016.
Other names on the newspaper’s list of outsiders worth considering included former President Barack Obama (who attended Harvard Law School) and Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.
