PHOENIX — Mexico will be one of four teams that take the field Thursday in Phoenix as part of the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup soccer tournament.

Mexico was scheduled to play the second game of a doubleheader against Honduras at 7:30 p.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium, located near Bethany Home Road and the Loop 101, in Glendale.

The first game of the doubleheader will pit Jamaica against Canada. That game was scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets are available online and start at $30.

The nearby Westgate Entertainment District planned to host a free party that starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. There will be a free concert by Voz de Mando.

The winners of the Phoenix quarterfinals will play against each other at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Saturday.

Those hoping to see the United States play in Phoenix were out of luck. The team stood a slim chance of coming to the Valley and, after winning its group, will play against El Salvador in the other quarterfinal doubleheader in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

The Gold Cup, held every two years, pits 12 national teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean against one another to crown an eventual champion.

University of Phoenix Stadium last hosted two Gold Cup games in 2015. Prior to that, the last Gold Cup game played at the stadium was in 2009.

The facility is becoming a draw for soccer games. Earlier this year, the facility hosted three Copa America matches, including the third-place game between the U.S. and Colombia. It has also hosted various other international friendlies and tournaments.

We want to hear from you.
