PHOENIX — Monsoon season officially began on June 15, but so far the Valley hadn’t seen much, if any, rain.
That changed on Thursday night, and while it was light rain, Phoenix-area residents were probably a little surprised to see it.
No you are not dreaming, those are some light showers in parts of the valley! #azwx #Monsoon2017 pic.twitter.com/8EWY88stjf

The National Weather Service reported the light showers.
The storm was northeast of the Valley at about 6:30 p.m. before winds blew it down at about 8 p.m.
This rain is a big difference from the constant sunshine and heat in the Phoenix area over the last few weeks. Many daily heat records were broken in the middle of June, with temperatures soaring as high as 119 degrees.
