If you don’t think that the “Dull Men’s Club” sounds like a raucous and daring adventure of a time, well — you’d be right.
Grover Click, the assistant vice president of the Dull Men’s Club explained in a video (published by Great Big Story) explained his group well.
“The Dull Men’s Club is a group that get together to celebrate the ordinary,” Click said. “It began in the 1980’s, a long time ago … in New York City.”
He explained that when he moved to England, the draw of his group came with him, and it’s grown ever since.
The video shows various members of the club who enjoy unique — yet somewhat unexciting — things in their spare time. They include a milk bottle collector, a traffic circle (or “roundabout”) enthusiast and a tombstone aficionado, among others.
And wouldn’t you know it — the milk bottle collector said he doesn’t even like milk.
The video also featured a man who is enthusiastic about water pumps and a woman who routinely follows brown tourist signs around the UK (you know — those road signs with the arrow pointing to some nearby attraction).
Whatever your passion is and however mundane, the D.M.C. encourages you to embrace it.
“There are a lot of studies being done now that- boredom has got benefits,” Click said. “We’re not so interested in glitz and glam. We’re quite happy with simple things in life.”
