Tire fire shuts down Phoenix street, sends huge puffs of black smoke into air

PHOENIX — Tires that caught fire in a junkyard sent plumes of black smoke into the air near downtown Phoenix on Wednesday morning and slowing traffic.

The burn near 19th Avenue and Broadway Road could be seen from Interstate 10 and shut down the affected streets shortly before 10 a.m.

Trails of smoke were visible at Interstate 17 and Van Buren Street.

No other details were immediately available.
