This cold case murder needs a fresh look.

“Summer Sizemore was 36 years old when she went missing,” Phoenix Police Detective Kim Neis said. “She lived near Peoria (Avenue) and 15th Avenue.”

Sizemore worked as a waitress and loved poetry, photography and drawing. She was last seen April 18, 2001. A relative reported her missing three days later.

On April 22, Sizemore’s body was found near an abandoned building in Chandler near Chandler Boulevard and Gilbert Road.

Neis said residents living near the building reported the body.

She died of blunt force trauma to the head. Sizemore didn’t have a car and didn’t know anyone on that side of the Valley, so far from where she lived and worked.

Her family is hoping that by now, someone who knows something has talked about it and her murder can finally be solved.

Next, you have to wonder why if you’re going to shoplift, you’d take the risk on items worth only $1. But that’s exactly what happened about noon on Jan. 29, 2017.

“This happened at the Family Dollar store at 75th Avenue and Indian School (Road),” Neis said.

“The suspect walked in and started concealing items. He even walked up to the register and at that time was confronted by the employees.”

They told him to remove the merchandise from his pockets and said they were calling the police. He agreed to wait, but once the call was made, he decided to make a run for it.

That’s when he pushed an employee to the ground and took off, turning a misdemeanor shoplifting into a felony robbery.
