PHOENIX — An officer in charge of transporting prisoners was arrested in California for allegedly sexually assaulting women in custody, the Department of Justice said Friday.

In a statement, the department said 49-year-old Eric Kindley operates a company called Special Operations Group 6, which contracts with jails across the U.S. to move prisoners who were arrested on out-of-state warrants. He was arrested in Stockton after a complaint alleged he “engaged in sexual misconduct in his Dodge Caravan with three different female prisoners during three different transports.”

The trips in question were from California to Arizona, Alabama to Arizona and Mississippi to New Mexico.

The allegation specifies that in each assault, the woman was “handcuffed, restrained and taken to secluded locations where Kindley sexually assault her.”

Kindley also allegedly threatened each victim with a firearm and warned them that nobody would believe them if the victims reported the incidents.

The Department of Justice said there is an ongoing investigation on the matter.
