PHOENIX — Tucson has long been the home for the University of Arizona, but overseas, there could be dozens of new homes representing the same college.

Only they’ll be a bit smaller.

According to Inside Higher Ed, the University of Arizona is planning to open 25 “microcampuses” across the world over the next three years.

For a microcampus to come into fruition, UA would partner with an international university and offer a dual-degree program that would be “conferred by both Arizona and a partner university,” according to IHE. There, UA would have a branded space with classrooms for any students wishing to become Wildcats.

“The idea of a microcampus, it’s in part in response to the failures of traditional models of international education, a lot of which have focused on mobility and others on international branch campuses,” Arizona provost for international education Brent White told IHE.

Arizona opened their first microcampus at Ocean University of China in Qingdao two years ago, and their second at the American University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia.

There are already 11 more microcampuses planned that include universities in the Philippines, Jordan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

We want to hear from you.
