A Republican lawmaker in New Hampshire who was criticized for creating a misogynistic online forum says he resigned from the House because he was concerned about his safety as well as the safety of his family.
Rep. Robert Fisher of Laconia came under fire after an article on The Daily Beast revealed him as the creator of a Reddit forum called “The Red Pill,” which bills itself as a discussion of sexual strategies for men.
He resigned from the legislature Wednesday, shortly after his Republican colleagues recommended he not be punished for his role in the forum.
He said in an email later that “the falsehoods, lies and comments” had created a situation in which he must “genuinely consider the safety and wellbeing of my girlfriend, my family, and myself.”
