PHOENIX — A Phoenix mother will be celebrating her first Mother’s Day in a local hospital, after her daughter was born three months premature.
According to a press release, Yuliana Torres Aguirre gave birth to her daughter, Neelam, on Feb. 10. Neelam was born at just 24 weeks, weighing 1 pound, 6 ounces.
Neelam has spent nearly every day in the Nursery Intensive Care Unit at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, and Yuliana has spent every day by her side.
During her time at the hospital, Neelam has also survived two brain bleeds and has gained about 5 pounds.
Yuliana said, despite all the ups and downs, she is truly excited to spend Mother’s Day with her young daughter.
“Being a mom is a blessing, and she is our little miracle,” Yuliana said in the press release. “My first Mother’s Day will definitely be special.”
The family is expected to take Neelam home in the coming weeks “as she learns to eat without too much assistance,” the press release said.
