Northern Arizona may see another snow storm this season

PHOENIX — Northern Arizonans who thought they were in the clear when it came to snow this season may be in for yet another round of the white stuff.
The National Weather Service said more than a half-inch of snow fell in the Flagstaff area on Tuesday.

But the weather service also said its computers are predicting another possible storm in the coming days.
“The computers are showing about a week and a half out there could be another one of these low (pressure fronts) dropping down,” David Vonderheide, a hydrometeorological technician with the weather service, said.
“It might be more up toward Utah, but it’s something to keep an eye on.”
Though snow in Arizona this late in the year is not unheard of, it is rare.
“It’s unusual to get it in May and June, but it has happened in the past,” Vonderheide said.
Arizona Snowbowl, a ski resort located north of Flagstaff, stayed open until May 7 this year. It was the first time the resort received enough snow to stay open until May.
As of April, the resort had received 328 inches — more than 27 feet — of the white stuff.
