PHOENIX — It went so well, they’re coming back. Officials for Canadian airline WestJet announced it will be back in the fall with nonstop service of two routes to a suburban Phoenix airport.

The airline announced Tuesday that it would continue the routes to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport from Calgary and Edmonton in October.

“Our continued partnership with WestJet is great news for Gateway Airport and the East Valley,” Mayor John Giles said in a press release.

The low-fare carrier launched service to the East Valley airport from Calgary and Edmonton in January. Calgary to Mesa was available three times a week, while Edmonton to Mesa was available once a week.

“The Phoenix East Valley has proven to be a popular market for Canadian air travelers,” airline Vice President Brian Znotins said.

WestJet already flies out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Visitors from the north make up a big part of Arizona’s winter landscape.

Recently, the largest airline in Canada, Air Canada, said it was bringing back nonstop service to Phoenix Sky Harbor from Montreal starting in early 2018.

That will mark the second time Air Canada had nonstop flights between Phoenix and Montreal. The weekends-only route lasted only one season, ending after the 2010 season.

We want to hear from you.
