Private schools in the Bay Area and technology-specific education institutions aren’t the only programs producing the top tech workers in the country.

Arizona State University is among the top 10 universities who send graduates to careers in Silicon Valley, recruiting company HiringSolved told Phoenix Business Journal.

The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering have become a strong developer of students entering the technology field and are graduating the 10th-highest number of students in the industry over the past year thanks relatively affordable $10,158 in-state and $25,458 out-of-state tuition.

ASU isn’t the only public university to make the top-10 list.

While private schools Cal Berkeley and Stanford ranked No. 1 and 2 on the list and were followed by the private Carnegie Mellon and Southern California, the University of Texas at Austin ranked fifth, while Illinois Urbana-Champaign and San Jose State also appeared on the list.

The first Ivy League school in the ranking of the most graduates to find careers in Silicon Valley was Cornell, which didn’t appear in the rankings until No. 15. MIT followed at No. 20.

What’s the reasoning for public schools showing well in the study?

According to HiringSolved, tech recruiters look less at academic achievements than they do for specific skills such as literacy in programming languages like Python and C++.

HiringSolved put together its report by using data from about 10,000 public profiles for tech workers hired or promoted in 2016 and the beginning of 2017.

We want to hear from you.
