PHOENIX — A majority of registered Arizona Republicans said the media covers President Donald Trump inaccurately, according to a KTAR News/OH Predictive Insights poll released Wednesday.
Twenty-four percent of Republican respondents said the media sometimes reports on the president accurately, while 33 percent said they rarely see accurate reporting.
Twenty-one percent of registered Republican voters said the coverage of Trump is completely inaccurate.
The opinions of coverage were split along party lines.
Sixty-eight percent of Democrat respondents said the media always or most of the time covers Trump accurately, compared to just 22 percent of Republicans.
Overall, a majority of the 401 respondents to the poll said the president receives accurate coverage most of the time or sometimes.
The media became a political target during the past election. Trump repeatedly attacked the so-called mainstream media during his campaign and has continued to do so since he won the White House. He routinely refers to many outlets as “fake news.”
His supporters have also argued the media is attempting to undermine Trump’s presidency.
Some politicians, such as U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), have argued for the need of a free press.
“If you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and, many times, an adversarial free press,” McCain told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in February.
The KTAR News/OH Predictive Insights poll was conducted by OH Predictive Insights — an Arizona-based polling company — in partnership with KTAR News 92.3 FM.
