Arizona Rep. Martha McSally attends Commander-in-Chief Trophy celebration

PHOENIX — U.S. Rep. Martha McSally of Arizona attended the Commander-in-Chief Trophy Celebration on Tuesday and was recognized by President Donald Trump.

McSally, herself a former member of the Air Force’s A-10 squadron, is a Republican from Tucson representing Arizona’s second district on Capitol Hill. President Trump mentioned her by name in the Rose Garden celebration.

“As the only member of Congress to graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy, I was honored to be in the Rose Garden today to help present Commander-in-Chief trophy to the Air Force Falcons,” McSally said in a statement. “I also appreciate the President’s acknowledgment of my tireless efforts to save the A-10.”

The event is held each year and is meant to honor that year’s winner in college football of the season series between the U.S. Military Academy (also known as West Point), the Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. This year, Air Force was presented with the trophy.

McSally is the first woman in U.S. history to fly into combat, command a fighter squadron and serve as an A-10 instructor pilot. She flew nearly 2,600 hours in her military career.
