PHOENIX — A Phoenix police vehicle was involved in a car accident that injured five people, including a 5-month-old baby, on Tuesday, police said.

Sgt. Vince Lewis, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department, said the 5-month-old baby was injured after a fully-marked Phoenix police vehicle collided with a black, four-door sedan near 12th Street and Southern Avenue.

Two unidentified adults were pushing the baby in a stroller down a sidewalk near the intersection when the sedan, which was being driven by another unidentified adult with his 5-year-old daughter as a passenger, struck the family of three.

The baby ended up underneath the sedan and suffered a broken arm, Lewis said.

An unidentified police sergeant, the baby and one of its parents, the driver of the sedan and his daughter were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lewis said the cause of the crash is unknown and the investigation is ongoing. Southern Avenue is expected to be closed through the evening.
